We went sledding on the 23rd with Beth and Zach and his family. We did not quite make it up the old ski hill but used a smaller hill instead. Somebody had built a small ramp and here I am flying with my feet up in the air.
Devin's crash landing........apparently gravity won after he went over the ramp. Due to faulty navigation he almost landed on poor Zach.
And together we go down the hill....or not we got stuck and needed a good push....
Beth and Zach.....go,go,go........it was a lot of fun but very cold.
Whose eyes are those? That's all you could see of Devin but at least his face stayed warm.

We got a little bit of snow this week. A slight Blizzard on Tuesday and more today has added up to what you can see here. It's not so much fun since nobody seems to believe in putting salt on the roads.............
The snow itself is not so bad but the wind will get you. I felt like I was getting my face sandblasted at times.
In some instances I could not even see what's across the street. We have had record snow falls in Kodiak this year.......figures. I bet it'll even snow in Puerto Rico if we decide to move there next.
Merry Christmas to all, espcially our family and friends. We miss all of you........
By the way this is not our tree...we were at the Airstation Christmas party and had a lot of fun.

Sunrise in Kodiak...I wish. This is a full moon which is almost as bright as the sun but only almost....
We found a bear foot print in the snow and a Devin print next to it.....now you can imagine how big those bears are..!

More bald eagle pictures....they seem to be everywhere we look. Maybe it's because the trees
are not green and they are much easier to spot.

My very first Kodiak bear I was the only person at the river when he started coming out of the brush. The first 10 pictures or so are all blurry because I was shaking so bad.....when more people showed up I figured I'll get closer, too since I was sure I could outrun some of the older ladies.
How awesome is he.......Devin will be so mad that he missed this. I was at home and just had this feeling that today was the day.
This is a very big animal and I'm not so sure I'd want to see one while hiking......at this point my car is very close behind me with the engine running and the door open.
Every time I zoomed in I scared myself about how close I was to this critter. This is a young bear and they do get bigger....hard to imagine.
He did catch a Salmon and was eating it for a while....I watched him for over and hour and froze half to death...it was worth it.
How much better could it get??? Well, there is a bald eagle sitting on the rock..........ONLY IN KODIAK!!!!!!

Hello all, as you can see it is getting a little colder here. It is so much fun to drive down a country road without street lights when it is totally icy.....NOT..... but it sure looks pretty.
We heard that some of the bears had been sighted nearby but we seem to miss them every time we go out "bear hunting" with our camera. The closest we got is the sign........I really think that Kodiak bears are avoiding us at all cost.
We are not quite sure if this is a Golden Eagle or a juvenile Bald Eagle. There were several of them and could be either.
More Bald Eagle pictures. They seem to be everywhere this time of the year.
Even though we did not find a bear, we did get to see a fox. He was running across the road in front of us. Isn't he cute? He had blue big eyes and just kept looking at us.
Finally he or she decided to walk away......only in Kodiak.

Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even Sasha has World Series fever........
Not much new here. I started my MBA (what was I thinking?) we'll see how it goes. Wish we could be in Detroit to see the Tiger magic happen.
We decided to let our occasional boredom out on the cat, I'm not sure he enjoyed the "dress up" but we sure thought it was funny.
We went to a Halloween party this weekend. The costumes were very warm but cuddly.
Here is a picture of us with Beth and Zach.....see, vampires and cartoon characters can get along just fine.

Our new baby...."It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand" just kidding but it really is ours we bought this one a few weeks ago since having one car was not working out too well. We got a great deal on it and just couldn't resist....and it'll do fine in Puerto Rico (if that's where we end up next time). I can't wait to take to top off the Jeep next summer......

Isn't it amazing how a tree can simply grow on top of a rock? This is out by Chinniak and it is very Alaska-like pretty out here.
We were wondering why the car in front of us pulled over to the side and then we saw them. I think they might have a nest up there.
Oh deer....there were two deer standing on the side of the road, munching on some grass. We got out of the car and were close enough to pet them. Neither one of them was scared or ran away....only in Kodiak. Still no bear sightings we are starting to think that the kodiak bear is just a myth created to keep children indoors.

One of my co-workers took us out on the boat last weekend and yes we did catch lots of silver salmon.....it was a ton of fun but very cold.
Look I caught a goldfish...at least that's what it looked like but this is actually a rockfish and he got to go free. Yes, I am wearing my ski pants and I'm still freezing.

This is a Puffin.....I finally got to see a real one. They are so cute.
We drove right by the sea lions and they do not seem to have a care in the world

And where did you take your truck today?????? Well, we drove ours up to the top of Pillar which is one of the mountains.....looks like a Ford commercial. Funny thing is, I ran into one of my co-workers up here, I wonder what the odds are that you will see someone you know on top of a mountain.....
I'm on top of the world.......since I am not currently on a cruise ship but rather on a rock I figured I'll have to do my Titanic pose up here.
A view of Kodiak from the top of the mountain......
As I said, we live on a rock and therefore the beaches here are very rocky...does that make sense?
Some of the fishing/charter fishing boats in the harbor. Yap there are a lot of fishing boats in Kodiak.
Devin finally caught a Salmon.....with our new fishing poles. Unfortunately he snagged it through its finn so we had to let it go.
"Pretend Olive Garden" night. Devin made chicken Parmesan for dinner. It was sooooooo good. I'll have to convince him to cook more often and it was much better than Olive Garden.

So we heard that the Salmon were running at the local rivers......at first we only saw a few of them and by the way they are 10lbs or more each....and these are only the pinks so far. They swim up the river to spawn and then they die. What a sucky life.

By the way I got a great fishing rod for my birthday...it's very nice. If someone would have told me a few years ago that I would EVER ask for a fishing rod for my birthday I would have thought they were crazy.......
And then we saw some more fish. Yes, all the dark spots are lots of fishies floating around.
Are those a lot of fish or what???? You can almost walk across their backs to the other side. I don't even think you need a fishing rod to catch one...just reach your hand in and you have a fish or two or three.....only in Kodiak.

Do you see what I see...way off in the distance there is a little orange blob/helicopter and guess what my husband's in it /flying it......finally 7 weeks later there he is.....

Also a big THANK YOU and I love you guys to Beth and Zach/Erin and Jeff for being such great friends. They have kept me sane this whole time. They fed me, took me to dinners/movies, fishing, and answered countless phone calls.... thanks for putting up with me.
And there is the helo driving right by me as I am parked next to the taxi-way or whatever you call it. Sorry the picture is blurred but I was jumping up and down, waving and taking pictures at the same time.
There he is my long lost, orange suited husband. Yes, I have a husband again isn't that great.
And here is what they drew/wrote on the side of the helicopter including a painting of the Cougar Ace, the car carrier that was flipped over which they hoisted to and babysat for a while. If you double click on the image you might be able to read all of the writing....
